With the day to
day grind of our busy lifestyles
many people today suffer from
pain in heel of foot
which can be caused by
many things.
The heel bone is
the largest bone in the foot and is
the first to hit the ground when
walking. Causes of pain in heel of
foot include: Plantar fascitis, heel
spurs, being overweight, thinning or
weakness of the fat padding of the
heel, stone bruise, arthritis in the
ankle or heel joint, fracture of the
heel bone, irritation of the nerves
on the inner or outer sides of the
heel, and constantly being on your
feet.
One of the most
common causes of pain in heel of
foot is plantar
fascitis. This is an inflammation of
the plantar fascia. The muscles in
the bottom of the foot support the
arch of the foot by connecting the
ball of the foot to the heel.
The inflammation
of the plantar fascia is often
caused by walking or running
abnormally and over a period of time
and will increase tension on the
plantar fascia and cause
inflammation. This severe heel
pain is normally in the front and
bottom of the heel and described as
being a dull aching pain and is
often reproduced by flexing the toes
upward. Plantar fascitis exercises
and arch support can help relieve
the pain associated with plantar
fascitis.

Another cause for
pain in heel of foot could be due to
a pointed bony outgrowth of the heel
known as a heel spur. Heel spurs can
be located at the back of the heel
or under the heel, or beneath the
sole of the foot. Heel spurs that
are at the back of the heel are
associated with inflammation of the
Achilles tendon (tendonitis) and may
cause tenderness and pain at the
back of the heel which is made worse
while pushing off the ball of the
foot.
Bruising the fat
pad on your heel is another cause
for pain in of heel foot. Stepping
on a hard object such as a rock or
stone can bruise the fat pad. That
is why it is important to always
wear shoes when going outside.
Eventually the pain associated with
this will go away with rest.
